Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Chimney Cleaning Before & After in Fort Worth, TX

Photos tell the truth faster than any claim we could make. The images below show real conditions we find inside Fort Worth chimneys, and what they look like after our technicians finish. Some of these are routine cleanings. Some turned into repairs once we got a camera up the flue. Either way, you’ll see exactly what we saw, what we did, and why the work mattered.

Stage 3 Creosote Removal in a Ryan Place Fireplace

BeforeBeforeAfterAfter
Before: glazed creosote coating the flue walls in a Ryan Place home.
BeforeBeforeAfterAfter
After: flue walls clear and safe for use after a full mechanical sweep and chemical treatment.

The homeowner called because smoke was backing into the living room every time they lit a fire. Our camera showed a layer of glazed creosote, the hard, shiny kind that doesn’t brush off with standard sweeping. We ran a full mechanical sweep with a rotary head, then applied a creosote treatment to break down what remained. The flue went from roughly 70% obstruction to fully open, and the draft problem disappeared. We recommended a follow-up inspection in six months since glazed creosote often returns in older masonry chimneys.

Bird Nest and Debris Blockage in Wedgwood

BeforeBeforeAfterAfter
Before: a bird nest packed roughly four feet down the flue, plus twigs and feathers.
Professional chimney sweep cleaning a dirty fireplace with a long brush
After: flue cleared, swept, and capped to keep nesting out for good.

This one was a springtime call. The homeowner heard scratching sounds in the chimney and then nothing, which usually means a nest got lodged somewhere. We found a full bird nest wedged about four feet down from the crown, plus loose twigs and feather debris packed into the smoke shelf. After removing the nest material, we swept the flue and installed a properly sized chimney cap with side screening. Nesting season in Fort Worth runs from March through June, so we recommend caps before then, not after a bird has already moved in.

Soot and Ash Buildup in a Ridglea Hills Gas Fireplace

Professional chimney sweep cleaning a fireplace flue from the roof.
Before: heavy soot film on the logs, damper, and firebox walls after years of gas-log use.
Professional chimney sweep cleaning a residential brick chimney flue with a brush
After: firebox cleaned, damper checked, and logs reset to factory position.

Gas fireplaces get overlooked because people assume they don’t need cleaning, but soot from the pilot and burners still coats the logs, damper, and walls over time. This Ridglea Hills home had a visible film on every surface, and the damper wasn’t fully opening, which meant combustion gases were lingering. We cleaned the firebox, checked the damper operation, and reset the log set to the manufacturer’s layout. The homeowner noticed the difference in flame pattern immediately after. Gas units should be swept annually, same as wood-burning ones.

Water-Damaged Smoke Chamber in Arlington Heights

Professional chimney sweep performing a detailed fireplace inspection in a home
Before: cracked smoke chamber with visible water staining and mortar deterioration.
Chimney professional inspecting brick masonry chimney exterior with a flashlight on roof
After: smoke chamber parged and sealed, with a new chimney crown above.

A standard sweep turned into a repair on this one. Once we got below the flue, we found the smoke chamber had cracks and water staining from a failing crown. The chamber was catching creosote in every crack, and water was slowly working through the masonry. We parged the smoke chamber using HeatShield’s resurfacing system and replaced the crown above it. Every repair Flint Chimney Co does carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing, so if any of that work fails within a year, we return at no charge.

Squirrel Debris and Flue Obstruction in TCU/West Cliff

Professional performing a digital video camera inspection of a chimney flue
Before: leaves, twigs, and shredded material from a squirrel that found its way inside.
Professional technician applying mortar repair to a brick chimney crown
After: flue cleared and swept, with a new reinforced cap secured to the crown.

This West Cliff home had no cap at all when we arrived. Squirrels had been using the chimney for storage, and what looked like a small pile at the top turned out to be three contractor bags of leaves, twigs, and nesting material by the time we got it all out. We swept the flue completely, inspected the interior for any hidden damage, and installed a heavy-gauge copper cap with reinforced screening. No cap, no protection, it’s that simple.

Pre-Winter Cleaning for a Wood Stove in North Fort Worth

Professional performing concrete chimney crown repair using an angle grinder tool.
Before: sticky, tar-like creosote in the connector pipe and chimney above a wood stove.
Professional technician performing masonry chimney repair work on a rooftop
After: connector pipe and chimney swept clean and ready for burning season.

The homeowner here burns oak and pecan through the winter, which produces a sticky creosote that clings to the inside of the pipe. They called us in October, which is the right time, before the first cold front. We swept the connector pipe and the full chimney run, then checked the stove’s door gasket and baffle while we were there. Total time was under two hours. Fort Worth wood stoves need at least one sweep per burning season, more if you burn unseasoned wood.
